HYSTORY
Castrum Premalchorii passed under the rule of Florence at the end of 300. The old town centre, clinging to a spur on the river
Rabbi preserves the typically medieval urban structure, with walls, towers and narrow streets.
The area, popular resort for summer holidays, is located inside the
Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi,
Monte Falterona e
Campigna. The Visitor Centre of the Park and the
Museum of Nature (plastics, films, educational games) are dedicated to the
fauna of Romagna Apennines.

PLACES TO SEE
• Museo naturalistico della Fauna del Crinale Romagnolo, in the Park Visitor Centre
• Giannelli and Briccolani’s Palaces - imposing buildings that reflect the grand-ducal architectural style of Romagna-Toscana; Porta Fiorentina, with mechanical clock of 1593 driven by two stones that stretch a long hemp rope
• Parish Church of St. Martino, of medieval origins, it preserves interesting paintings
• Oratory of St. Lorenzo, near the walls of the fortified village
• Biondi Mill (Castel dell’Alpe), an old mill (tel. 0543 956707)
• Mengozzi Mill (Fiumicello), water mill with millstones, still working. The mill is located along a nature trail in the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi
THE SORROUNDINGS
• Hiking along the trails of the Park (Monte Gemelli, west side of the valley and Monte Guffone Ritoio at east)
• Walking and hiking in the forest (areas equipped with picnic) to Ridolla
• Bathing on the Rabbi river, upstream of the centre: waterfalls, picturesque loops and beaches
• Fishing in the lake of Fiumicello
GASTRONOMY AND WINES: SMELLS AND TASTES
The chestnut, but also its flour ("sweet flour"), is the product the most tied to local culinary traditions. Typical is the Castagnaccio of Fiumicello and Premilcuore (dessert made with chestnut flour) at bakeries and local restaurants. It is also characteristic the bread "so-called Toscano", the raviggiolo, and the tortelli alla lastra.
