ROMAGNA'S CHICKEN

ROMAGNA'S CHICKEN This breed of chicken, bred for centuries in Romagna, was abandoned in the 50s in favor of more productive breeds and suited to intensive, reaching almost to extinction. Today it owes its recovery thanks to a protection project supported by the Province of Parma and the Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Parma. It was the classic chicken farm, resistant to harsh conditions, a feature that allowed him to live free in the fields feeding on what was and sleeping perched on trees. It was therefore particularly suited to sharecropping because did not need any special care or consuming grains. It was used mainly for the production of eggs, which thanks to the greater size of the yolk, gave a nice yellow color to the dough.   Presents skeleton and fine bone structure, a single comb Medium size, straight for the cock and folded in the hen, the color red. The wattles are developed, mumps oval, small. The livery is quite varied, but we can assume they were common mantle silvery gray "silver flakes blacks" red gold "gold flakes blacks", and white partridge. The skin color varies but is mostly white.
